MAF President on Brazil Trade Mission with Governor
Al Stimac, MAF President, accompanied the Governor on a trade mission to Brazil October 22-29, 2011 to represent Florida manufacturers. He made valuable contacts for Florida manufacturers.
Governor Scott Announces 2012 Job and Economic Growth Initiatives at Metal Essence
On October 12, 2011 Governor Scott visited Metal Essence, owned by MAF President Al Stimac amd Yvonne Stimac, in Longwood FL to tour the facility, talk with employees, and announce his 2012 legislative agenda for jobs and the economy. He outlined 7 initiatives:
- Streamlining business permitting and eliminating burdensome rules and regulations;
- Providing tax relief and reform for Florida"s working families and businesses;
- Reforming Florida"s unemployment system to create a reemployment system;
- Restoring accountability and credibility to Florida's Workforce Boards:
- Prioritizing vital transportation projects to facilitate economic development opportunities;
- Offering stability to Florida businesses by balancing the budget without raising taxes;
- Prioritizing science, technology, engineering and mathematics in education.
MAF applaudes the Governor for his commitment to jobs and the state's economy.
Florida TaxWatch Releases Much-Anticipated Study by Manufacturers Defining Economic Impact of Manufacturing and Opportunities for Growth in Florida
Florida TaxWatch has released a comprehensive study conducted by the Florida TaxWatch Research Institute that outlines the positive economic impact of Florida’s manufacturing industry on the state. The study demonstrates the great opportunity our state has to attract capital, create high-wage jobs, increase productivity, and enhance economic stability. To estimate the economic benefits of growing the manufacturing sector in Florida, the study used Miami-Dade County as an example. Click here to read the entire Press Release.
MAF Releases 2011 Legislative Report
The 2011 MAF Legislative Report was released on May 31, 2011. The report describes legislation of interest to manufacturers in Florida that passed during the 2011 Florida Legisalative Session.

The 2012 Florida Legislative Session begins on January 10 and ends on March 9, 2012.
MAF Awarded Manufacturing Institute Grant
On March 2, 2011 MAF announced the receipt of a grant from the Manufacturing Institute in Washington DC and a partnership with the Insitute and the Employ Florida Banner Center for Advanced Manufacturing to begin deployment of the NAM-Endorsed Manufacturing Skills Certification System in Florida. Through the alignment of eudcational and career pathways, this large scale effort is intended to prepare students and working learners for high quality jobs in manufactuirng. EFI/MAF Team Up on Exporting
Enterprise Florida and the Manufacturers Association of Florida are teaming up to help manufacturers expand their export sales to international markets offering great potential for Florida products. The Export Expansion Initiative is designed to assist manufacturers at all levels of export readiness with capitalizing on current and emerging international opportunities.
The key components of the program entail first identifying target manufacturers and then supporting them with one-to-one counseling, export training workshops and webinars, target market information, development of a business plan model for exporters in cooperation with university partners, export finance assistance through cooperation with trade finance partners, marketing support through the Florida Export Directory, new client development through customized Gold Key matches in cooperation with the U.S. Commercial Service, and export sales missions to target markets.
